DEPARTMENT: Estimating & Pre-Construction
REPORTS TO: Director of Estimating
SUMMARY:
The Pool Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for luxury residential and commercial swimming pool and water feature projects. This role involves analyzing plans, specifications, and requirements to provide detailed proposals that reflect the company’s standards of precision, quality, and efficiency. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge of pool construction, materials, and trade pricing, as well as the ability to interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review architectural, structural, and MEP plans to develop detailed cost estimates and proposals for pool and outdoor living projects.
- Analyze scope of work and identify potential cost-saving opportunities or value-engineering alternatives.
- Prepare accurate quantity takeoffs for all phases of pool construction including excavation, steel, plumbing, electrical, finishes, and equipment.
- Request and evaluate quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of construction materials, labor rates, and market trends.
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Designers, and Sales teams to ensure estimates align with client expectations and project feasibility.
- Prepare and submit detailed bid packages and client proposals within required timelines.
- Assist in the development of budgets and cost tracking systems for ongoing projects.
- Participate in pre-construction meetings and project handoffs to ensure smooth transition from estimating to construction.
- Maintain organized records of estimates, bids, and vendor information for future reference.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position does not directly supervise employees but coordinates closely with Project Managers, Designers, and the Accounting Department during the estimating and bidding process.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 3 years of estimating experience in pool construction, general construction, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of swimming pool construction methods, materials, and systems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and technical drawings.
- Proficient in takeoff and estimating software.
- Excellent mathematical, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy under deadlines.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred.
Certificates, licenses, and registrations preferred:
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification
- Project Estimating or Construction Cost Management Certification
Computer skills required/preferred:
- Estimating Software (Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or similar)
- Spreadsheet Software (Excel)
- Word Processing Software (Word)
- Electronic Mail Software (Outlook)
- Project Management Software (Buildertrend, Procore, or similar)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Regularly required to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, or visit job sites for field verification.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Work performed primarily in an office environment with occasional exposure to outdoor job site conditions.
- Noise level is generally moderate but may vary during site visits.
