Organization Information: The Florida Swimming Pool Association is a trade association for the swimming pool industry with 780+ member companies in 15 active chapters. FSPA provides educational courses for industry professionals, produces an annual industry trade show, and acts as the consumer resource for finding professionals in the swimming pool industry. The association provides government relations representation on behalf of its members to the Florida Building Commission and the Construction Industry Licensing Board as well as other legislative bodies that regulate the swimming pool industry in Florida such as the Department of Health and local building departments.
Job Summary: This role is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of a comprehensive communications and marketing program enhancing the Association’s brand, image, and bringing visibility to FSPA programs, products, and initiatives, and helping achieve revenue goals for the Association. Directs public relations efforts for the association and is responsible for the management and execution of marketing materials and digital media content including the organization’s web sites, social media accounts, e-newsletters, monthly publication and mobile apps.
The person in this role must be willing to develop a solid understanding of the swimming pool industry in order to be successfully responsible for the administration of public relations and marketing with industry members as a targeted audience. They must be willing to think strategically, creatively and independently to produce story-telling content that amplifies the organization’s presence. This role interacts with internal and external stakeholders such as members and our Board of Directors, and therefore must be willing to be forward facing as well as work closely with an internal team. Additionally, this role may supervise other marketing staff as implementers of the strategic priorities outlined below. They may also create and maintain relationships with vendors such as our Public Relations and Marketing firm.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement communications and marketing efforts for the association and all association events and programs. This includes all text and graphics for all publications, websites and social media accounts. Departmental shared services for this work includes education, tradeshow and events, membership and government relations.
- Ensure articulation and consistent communication of Association’s desired image, brand and position, to internal and external stakeholders.
- Responsible for editorial direction, design, production, and distribution of all Association publications, both digital and in print. This includes Florida Pool Prosm, brochures, event program materials, advertisements, and promotions.
- Oversee coordination of media interest in the Association and ensure regular contact with target media and appropriate response to media requests.
- Develop communications and strategies to increase customer engagement in all channels.
- Develop resource materials to assist chapters in the marketing and promotions of their programs and activities.
- Develop and monitoran annual operating budget for areas of responsibility and monitoring income and expenses to meet budget.
Public Relations:
- Develops and implements annual PR plan.
- Serves as the main point of contact for media, referring calls to appropriate staff or volunteer and arranging interviews as necessary.
- Monitors media coverage regarding the association and industry related topics.
- Distributes relevant media coverage to staff and members.
- Responsible for maintaining media lists.
- Actively fosters and maintains relationships with consumer reporters in all major markets as well as industry trade publication staff.
- Produce video content for use in all media channels.
- Produces scripted events for Everything Under the Sun Expo.
Digital:
- Manage and expand association’s social media presence in all applicable websites and applications.
- Creates schedules, establishes goals and sets timelines for digital and online communication efforts.
- Monitor and analyze trends to determine the association’s digital strategy.
- Writes and edits digital content, including copy for web pages, social media messages, blogs, e- newsletters and apps or manages others that do so.
- Enforce branding standards and ensure consistency throughout all digital communications.
- Maintains knowledge of social media legal guidelines.
Website:
- Optimize online presence for search engines, mobile viewing and usability.
- Helps ensure that all online content is timely, relevant and engaging.
- Publishes content including text, images, video, audio, multimedia files and advertising.
- Writes headings, links text, and ensures content advances SEO efforts.
- Monitors traffic and behavior on website using analytics software and utilizes this data to make continuous improvements.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Competencies and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing or related field
- Five years of experience in a related field
- Ability to work independently
- Excellent communications skills with a customer service focus
- Ability to work with a team and build relationships
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, Word Press, Constant Contact, Adobe Illustrator and other software applications
- Ability to travel within the state of Florida; with occasional work evenings and weekends
- Understand and uphold FSPA’s code of ethics and mission of advancing Florida’s swimming pool industry.
